Ultrapak and Aptar are committed to providing sustainable beauty packaging solutions for Australian and New Zealand customers, fostering innovation and positive change.
Our shared vision is to ensure, wherever possible, plastic doesn’t become waste. We are conscious of improving packaging sustainability by understanding the lifecycle impact, considering design, multiple usage and improving the material circularity index so that all materials can be recycled.
Research reflects a continuing shift in consumer attitudes with Increasing environmental awareness, knowledge and the desire to help the environment key drivers when making purchasing decisions. According to the EY Future Consumer Index, sustainable and ethical considerations are essential when purchasing beauty and well-being products for on average60% of Australian and 71% of global consumers. Customers want products and services that have little or no impact on the environment, indeed packaging recyclability comes third behind simplicity of opening and use in terms of expected consumer packaging characteristics.
Designing sustainable beauty packaging, in particularly mono material, is challenging for brands. Many beauty products such as lotion pumps and lipstick packaging require small multi-material complex parts. Identifying and improving the Material Circularity Index of products and designing products so that components can be recycled is key. By incorporating mono material components into dispensing and packaging solutions, brands are able to increase the recyclability of products. Aptar has been working closely with their supply chains, Ultrapak, and our customers, re-evaluating sustainable packaging solutions for both existing and new products. One of Aptar’s key product sustainability goals is to reach 100% recyclable, reusable or compostable solutions in personal care, home care, food/ beverage and beauty packaging by 2025.
To this end Aptar’s FusionPKG Airless-OneTM pump line is now made from a single-material, whilst the multi award winning Future Pump, is constructed entirely of Polythene (PE), which is in line with the most commonly used materials for bottles (PE and PET), allowing for more efficient recycling of the entire package. In addition to full recyclability and the incorporation of recycled materials, Aptar also offers refillable options such as the Essencia and Inune perfume sprays and Prilvate Refill lipstick mechanism.
Through collaboration Ultrapak and Aptar are confident we can deliver better economic, performance and environmental value to our customers and their consumers with sustainable beauty packaging solutions. Together we can all make a significant positive change.
